Spinal Decompression in Lincoln NE

Chiropractic Lincoln NE IDD Therapy

There are a few differences between IDD Therapy and Spinal Decompression in Lincoln NE. We are here to explain both techniques, and the differences between them.

Understanding Spinal Decompression in Lincoln NE

This gentle, non-surgical procedure can provide lower back and neck pain relief, and sciatica pain relief, and is a state-of-the-art procedure for, bulging, herniated, or degenerative disc disease in the neck and lumbar regions.

The gentle distractive forces of the Spinal Decompression create a decompression of the spine with unloading due to distraction and proper positioning, to improve blood flow and nutrient exchange to the injured area. You'll experience several cycles of stretch and relaxation, which graduate to a peak over a period of several minutes.

What are the goals of treatment?

Our main goal is pain relief. Pain relief is achieved through spinal decompression by

  • Improving the health of the disc
  • Rehabilitating and re-educating supporting soft tissue.
  • Realigning spinal structures.

Spinal decompression at Southwest Chiropractic Center

Dr. Larson provides treatment using the Accu-SPINA system, which is a precise, computer-controlled, advanced form of spinal decompression therapy. The Accu-SPINA was developed and advanced by neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, PTs, and other healthcare professionals for the non-surgical resolution of neck and back pain.

How does decompression therapy work?

The Accu-SPINA administers gentle motion (mobilization) to relieve pressure. During each decompression treatment, the space between the vertebra and disc is being increased, relieving disc compression. Essential disc fluid, blood, and nutrients are drawn in, supporting cell regeneration and disc health. Gradually the protrusion can shrink, even disappear. With each subsequent session, tissues heal, disc height increases, and spinal mobility returns. As structures improve, good spinal function can be restored and dramatic pain relief can be experienced.

This helpful video provides an overview of spinal decompression therapy for disc treatment at Southwest Chiropractic Center in Lincoln NE. It explains how spinal decompression works using scientifically proven technology to target and treat the specific areas of the spine which cause pain.

What makes decompression therapy dramatically more effective than basic spinal decompression?

This form of treatment, using the Accu-SPINA, enables Dr. Larson to target individual spinal segments, both lumbar and cervical. It gently creates space in the vertebrae surrounding an injured disc. Precise cycling from active to passive tensions enable the Accu-SPINA to deliver gradual neuromuscular re-education to spinal structures and surrounding tissues while decompressing and rehydrating the disc.

*Based on independent clinical studies, the Accu-SPINA has been proven to deliver a result that is not possible using an ordinary decompression device, traction table or manual therapy.

What does decompression therapy feel like?

During a disc treatment, you may feel a slight stretch-like motion or movement of the bed under you, which is often accompanied by a sensation of relief in the region of your pain.

While some patients do experience immediate improvement after the first session, some may begin to feel their pre-treatment discomfort return or even increase slightly. This can occur because your spinal structures are unaccustomed to a full range of movements.

As with a new exercise regimen, the soreness will subside after subsequent treatments and the duration of relief between treatments will last longer and longer-even as you increase your physical activity at home.

Disc degeneration or disc compression - as seen in bulging, slipped, herniated, prolapsed, or ruptured discs - puts pressure on the nerves in the area, which leads to pain that may extend beyond the back and/or to the neck, arms, legs and extremities. Treatment for this pain often involves manual therapies, medication, and sometimes surgery.

IDD Therapy® treatment, with its long history of success, offers an excellent alternative to traditional treatment options. Initially developed in conjunction with neurosurgeons, IDD Therapy® is used by orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals, who want to provide their patients with a proven, non-surgical option for the resolution of back and neck pain. The Goal of IDD Therapy® Treatment

In simplest terms, the goal of treatment is to create space between the vertebrae in order to alleviate pressure on the nerves which cause pain.

Unlike other types of generalized spinal treatments, many of which are a form of traction and are forced to treat the entire spine, IDD Therapy® targets only the injured spinal segments. The advanced, computer-directed treatment applies dynamic energy and gentle motion to the specified areas to slowly relieve pressure.

The doctor or technician will enter information, which is detailed to meet the specific treatment needs for the patient, into the computer program; and then will start the session. If, for any reason, the patient wishes to stop the treatment, they are able to do so with the safety button they will hold throughout the session.

When complete, the table will slowly return to a vertical position.
